DESCRIPTION:When and Where?\nWeekly public meetings are held every Wednesday evening (except at Christmas week)\, between 19:00 (7 PM) and 21:00 (9 PM) local time (e.g. 7pm BST in summer\, 7pm UTC in winter) in the Liverpool Astronomical Society’s Leighton Observatory. \nChildren who wish to visit must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nRegular Attendance\nWhile we do welcome members of the public\, we do ask you to consider that\, since everything is paid for from our Membership subscriptions\, if you find yourself attending a Weekly meeting more than 3 times\, or a Monthly meeting more than twice\, you might consider joining the LAS (the cost is minimal and there are a lot of benefits). \nOutdoors\nIf the weather is suitable\, LAS Members present will often have their telescopes and binoculars and members of the public will be able to view astronomical objects such as stars\, the Moon\, Jupiter\, the rings of Saturn\, etc. Don’t forget that the objects which are visible in the sky change throughout the year\, so you may not get a chance to see the particular object you were hoping for\, however\, assuming clear skies\, there is always something interesting to have a look at\, and maybe even a comet if we’re lucky! \nIndoors\nInside the building\, in good weather and bad\, there will be conversations and discussions taking place. DESCRIPTION:When and Where?\nWeekly public meetings are held every Wednesday evening (except at Christmas week)\, between 19:00 (7 PM) and 21:00 (9 PM) local time (e.g. 7pm BST in summer\, 7pm UTC in winter) in the Liverpool Astronomical Society’s Leighton Observatory. \nChildren who wish to visit must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nRegular Attendance\nWhile we do welcome members of the public\, we do ask you to consider that\, since everything is paid for from our Membership subscriptions\, if you find yourself attending a Weekly meeting more than 3 times\, or a Monthly meeting more than twice\, you might consider joining the LAS (the cost is minimal and there are a lot of benefits). \nOutdoors\nIf the weather is suitable\, LAS Members present will often have their telescopes and binoculars and members of the public will be able to view astronomical objects such as stars\, the Moon\, Jupiter\, the rings of Saturn\, etc. Don’t forget that the objects which are visible in the sky change throughout the year\, so you may not get a chance to see the particular object you were hoping for\, however\, assuming clear skies\, there is always something interesting to have a look at\, and maybe even a comet if we’re lucky! \nIndoors\nInside the building\, in good weather and bad\, there will be conversations and discussions taking place. DESCRIPTION:The March 2017 monthly meeting of Liverpool Astronomical Society for session 2016-17\, will take place on Friday\, March 17th 2017 from 7pm.\n \n\nOur guest speaker this month is Dr. Rene Breton of the University of Manchester\, with a lecture entitled: \n“Einstein’s Relativity: Tested to the Limit with Pulsars”\nDr. Breton writes: \nEinstein’s Theory of General Relativity was published in 1915. In over a century it has not failed a single time despite hundreds of tests and experiments. One of the most extreme environments in which to benchmark Relativity and possible alternative theories of gravity is around pulsars (after black holes\, the densest objects in the Universe). In this talk\, I will discuss the formidable achievements of the last 40 years in using pulsars to test Einstein’s theory and describe some of the strange behaviours of space and time when submitted to extreme gravity. DESCRIPTION:When and Where?\nWeekly public meetings are held every Wednesday evening (except at Christmas week)\, between 19:00 (7 PM) and 21:00 (9 PM) local time (e.g. 7pm BST in summer\, 7pm UTC in winter) in the Liverpool Astronomical Society’s Leighton Observatory. \nChildren who wish to visit must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nRegular Attendance\nWhile we do welcome members of the public\, we do ask you to consider that\, since everything is paid for from our Membership subscriptions\, if you find yourself attending a Weekly meeting more than 3 times\, or a Monthly meeting more than twice\, you might consider joining the LAS (the cost is minimal and there are a lot of benefits). \nOutdoors\nIf the weather is suitable\, LAS Members present will often have their telescopes and binoculars and members of the public will be able to view astronomical objects such as stars\, the Moon\, Jupiter\, the rings of Saturn\, etc. Don’t forget that the objects which are visible in the sky change throughout the year\, so you may not get a chance to see the particular object you were hoping for\, however\, assuming clear skies\, there is always something interesting to have a look at\, and maybe even a comet if we’re lucky! \nIndoors\nInside the building\, in good weather and bad\, there will be conversations and discussions taking place. DESCRIPTION:The February 2017 monthly meeting of Liverpool Astronomical Society for session 2016-17\, will take place on Friday\, February 24th 2017 from 7pm.\n Please note that this is the 4th Friday of the month\, not the 3rd Friday.\n\n\n\n\nOur guest speaker this month is Dr. Allan Chapman FRAS\, whose lecture is entitled:\n“The ‘Ferret of Comets’; Charles Messier and Astronomy in 18th century France”\n\n\nSubscriptions for 2016-2017 are now overdue and should have been paid by October 1st. \nAdult Annual Subscription is  £15.00\nJunior Members Subscription (10 to 17yrs)  is £5.00\nPlease contact the Treasurer if you wish to become a member. \nThe LAS e-newsletter is now included in your normal subscription cost \n\n\n\n\nFree tea/coffee with light refreshments break will form part of the evening at about 8pm.\n\nPlease note – Doors will only open after 6.30pm and not before.\n\n\n\nI do hope you can join me and your fellow members\, but if you are unable to attend\, please indicate your apologies by filling out this form.\n\nWith best wishes – Ken

DESCRIPTION:The January 2017 monthly meeting of Liverpool Astronomical Society for session 2016-17\, will take place on Friday\, January 20th 2017 from 7pm.\n\n\n\n\nOur guest speaker this month is Melanie Davies FRAS\, the founder of Creative Space\, Hastings\, whose lecture is entitled:\n“The Pleiades” – covering the mythology to modern-day science\n\n\nSubscriptions for 2016-2017 are now overdue and should have been paid by October 1st. \nAdult Annual Subscription is  £15.00\nJunior Members Subscription (10 to 17yrs)  is £5.00\nPlease contact the Treasurer if you wish to become a member. \nThe LAS e-newsletter is now included in your normal subscription cost \n\n\n\n\nFree tea/coffee with light refreshments break will form part of the evening at about 8pm.\n\nPlease note – Doors will only open after 6pm and not before.\n\n\n\nI do hope you can join me and your fellow members\, but if you are unable to attend\, please indicate your apologies by filling out this form.\n\nWith best wishes – Ken

SUMMARY:Weekly Public Meeting at the Leighton Observatory\, Pex Hill
DESCRIPTION:When and Where?\nWeekly public meetings are held every Wednesday evening (except at Christmas week)\, between 19:00 (7 PM) and 21:00 (9 PM) local time (e.g. 7pm BST in summer\, 7pm UTC in winter) in the Liverpool Astronomical Society’s Leighton Observatory. \nChildren who wish to visit must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nRegular Attendance\nWhile we do welcome members of the public\, we do ask you to consider that\, since everything is paid for from our Membership subscriptions\, if you find yourself attending a Weekly meeting more than 3 times\, or a Monthly meeting more than twice\, you might consider joining the LAS (the cost is minimal and there are a lot of benefits). \nOutdoors\nIf the weather is suitable\, LAS Members present will often have their telescopes and binoculars and members of the public will be able to view astronomical objects such as stars\, the Moon\, Jupiter\, the rings of Saturn\, etc. Don’t forget that the objects which are visible in the sky change throughout the year\, so you may not get a chance to see the particular object you were hoping for\, however\, assuming clear skies\, there is always something interesting to have a look at\, and maybe even a comet if we’re lucky! \nIndoors\nInside the building\, in good weather and bad\, there will be conversations and discussions taking place. We don’t tend to have arranged presentations at these public meetings however there is planetarium software\, astronomical images (many of them taken by our members)\, etc. \nSo good weather or bad\, feel free to pop along!\nWhether you’re a complete beginner or a professional astronomer\, or just interested\, we welcome you.\nPerhaps you’ve recently bought a telescope but don’t know how to set it up or get the best from it – bring it along with you (if it’s portable enough!) and somebody will be happy to help you.
