DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus situation \nWhen and Where?\nWeekly public meetings are held every Wednesday evening (except at Christmas week)\, between 19:00 (7 PM) and 21:00 (9 PM) local time (e.g. 7pm BST in summer\, 7pm UTC in winter) in the Liverpool Astronomical Society’s Leighton Observatory. \nChildren who wish to visit must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nRegular Attendance\nWhile we do welcome members of the public\, we do ask you to consider that\, since everything is paid for from our Membership subscriptions\, if you find yourself attending a Weekly meeting more than 3 times\, or a Monthly meeting more than twice\, you might consider joining the LAS (the cost is minimal and there are a lot of benefits). \nOutdoors\nIf the weather is suitable\, LAS Members present will often have their telescopes and binoculars and members of the public will be able to view astronomical objects such as stars\, the Moon\, Jupiter\, the rings of Saturn\, etc. Don’t forget that the objects which are visible in the sky change throughout the year\, so you may not get a chance to see the particular object you were hoping for\, however\, assuming clear skies\, there is always something interesting to have a look at\, and maybe even a comet if we’re lucky! \nIndoors\nInside the building\, in good weather and bad\, there will be conversations and discussions taking place. DESCRIPTION:The September 2020 monthly meeting of Liverpool Astronomical Society for the 2019 – 2020 (138th) session will be held on Friday\, September 18th from 19:00 to 21:00. \nNormally this meeting would have been the Presidential Address however as we’re still getting used to doing things online\, and since we haven’t yet been able to have the AGM\, we’ve opted to do this meeting more like a ‘normal’ one\, albeit online. \n\nOur guest speaker this month is Mr. Pete Williamson FRAS\, Astronomer & Broadcaster with the Faulkes Telescope Project Astro Radio & the BBC\, whose lecture is entitled: \n“From Myth to Moon”\n\nPete’s talk covers the history of our closest celestial neighbour from ancient times to the Moon landings. \n\nPlease note that this lecture will only be available live – it will not be available as a recording afterwards. \nThe structure of the meeting is expected to be as follows: \n18:45 – Room opens\n19:00 – Society business\n19:15 – Lecture starts\nAfter the lecture will be a Q&A with Pete. \n  \n\n  \nPlease note\, due to COVID-19 this meeting is ONLINE-ONLY.\nSociety members have been sent Zoom & YouTube links.A recording is NOT available for this lecture.\n \n  \n\n \n\nThe LAS e-newsletter is now included in your normal subscription cost \n\nI do hope you can join me and your fellow members\, but if you are unable to attend\, please indicate your apologies to me by filling out this form. \nWith best wishes – Mark

DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed due to the Coronavirus situation \nThe April 2020 monthly meeting of Liverpool Astronomical Society for the 2019 – 2020 (138th) session will be held on Friday\, April 17th from 19:00 to 21:00. \n\nOur guest speaker this month is Mr. Pete Williamson FRAS\, Astronomer & Broadcaster with the Faulkes Telescope Project Astro Radio & the BBC\, whose lecture is entitled: \n“From Herschel to Hawkwind: Music and Astronomy”\nJoin Pete as he takes us on a tour which demonstrates – vividly – how music and astronomy have intertwined across the ages.\nPlease do not bring cigarette lighters to wave around in the QMH\, however tempted you may be! ? \n \n\nSubscriptions for the current session 2019-2020 are now very overdue and should have been paid by October 1st.\nIf your subscription was not paid by the end of January\, your membership rights (including voting) have lapsed.\nIf your subscription was not paid by the end of March\, your membership may have ended\nPlease contact the Treasurer if you wish to become a member or update your subscription.\n \nAdult Annual Subscription is £15.00\nJunior Members Subscription (10 to 17yrs) is £5.00 \nThe LAS e-newsletter is now included in your normal subscription cost \n\nFree tea/coffee with light refreshments break will form part of the evening at about 8pm. \nPlease note – Doors will only open after 6.30pm and not before. \n\nI do hope you can join me and your fellow members\, but if you are unable to attend\, please indicate your apologies to me by filling out this form. \nWith best wishes – Mark

SUMMARY:Weekly Public Meeting at the Leighton Observatory\, Pex Hill
DESCRIPTION:When and Where?\nWeekly public meetings are held every Wednesday evening (except at Christmas week)\, between 19:00 (7 PM) and 21:00 (9 PM) local time (e.g. 7pm BST in summer\, 7pm UTC in winter) in the Liverpool Astronomical Society’s Leighton Observatory. \nChildren who wish to visit must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nRegular Attendance\nWhile we do welcome members of the public\, we do ask you to consider that\, since everything is paid for from our Membership subscriptions\, if you find yourself attending a Weekly meeting more than 3 times\, or a Monthly meeting more than twice\, you might consider joining the LAS (the cost is minimal and there are a lot of benefits). \nOutdoors\nIf the weather is suitable\, LAS Members present will often have their telescopes and binoculars and members of the public will be able to view astronomical objects such as stars\, the Moon\, Jupiter\, the rings of Saturn\, etc. Don’t forget that the objects which are visible in the sky change throughout the year\, so you may not get a chance to see the particular object you were hoping for\, however\, assuming clear skies\, there is always something interesting to have a look at\, and maybe even a comet if we’re lucky! \nIndoors\nInside the building\, in good weather and bad\, there will be conversations and discussions taking place. We don’t tend to have arranged presentations at these public meetings however there is planetarium software\, astronomical images (many of them taken by our members)\, etc. \nSo good weather or bad\, feel free to pop along!\nWhether you’re a complete beginner or a professional astronomer\, or just interested\, we welcome you.\nPerhaps you’ve recently bought a telescope but don’t know how to set it up or get the best from it – bring it along with you (if it’s portable enough!) and somebody will be happy to help you.
