Please consider using an alternative browser - especially if you are on Windows XP which only supports the outdated Internet Explorer 8 browser - such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome which do have support for these web standards. As well as not supporting modern features and web standards, old versions of browsers - especially Internet Explorer - can expose your computer to security risks. The Browse Happy website has a list of the latest versions of all major browsers, including Internet Explorer (but remember Windows XP only supports up to IE8!)
If updating/changing your browser is not possible, do not panic - all of the LAS website is still available to you and we are working to make the layout compatible with outdated browsers.
Our Society is tentatively reopening as we continue to monitor COVID-19 infection rates in England, however the January 2022 monthly meeting will be held ONLINE only via Zoom & YouTube.
The Leighton Observatory at Pex Hill remains closed until further notice (including the weekly meetings). Keep checking our website and social media (Twitter & Facebook) for future developments. For membership, please contact the society using the “Contact Us” page.

There are two new top-level items – “Information” and “Contact & Interact”. The “Information” section (next to “Home”) now contains the […]Continue Reading »

Hello everyone, As I hope you’ll have recently noticed, we have recently implemented an Events Calendar (very kindly donated at a significant cost by a generous company called Modern Tribe, who also offer some free plugins, so if you run a WordPress site, do please check them out.) Anyway, recently some extra functionality has been added to […]Continue Reading »
Due to an unfortunate abuse of the ratings system by some mean-spirited people hiding behind anonymity, only logged in users of the website will now have the option to rate items on the site such as articles and events. We’re not saying “Don’t rate an article/event with a low score”, however unless you explain the […]Continue Reading »
It has recently come to our attention that e-mails sent from us to Virgin Media e-mail accounts are going directly to their customers’ “Spam” folder, which by default is not immediately visible. If you use Virgin Media’s e-mail services (including those inherited from Telewest/blueyonder and NTL), you may not have received e-mails sent from our […]Continue Reading »
This is just a quick post to let you know that the main menu has been slightly re-organised. Some items which were previously at the ‘top’ level of the menu are now in sub-levels, specifically the index of content from the pre-2004 LAS website which can now be found as a sub-menu of the “All […]Continue Reading »
We’ve added a new item, Weather Resources, to the website, which we hope you will find of interest. It is located under the “News & Resources” menu item (formerly just “News”). On our weather pages you can find a selection of the latest images in various wavelengths from Eumetsat’s geostationary Meteosat satellite series, as well […]Continue Reading »
Each month we’ll be posting a gallery of astronomy/space related images. Some of the images are those we’ve found on sites like flickr and others have been sent to us. We’re aiming to include photos which have been taken in the local area, but there are exceptions if an image stands out for some reason […]Continue Reading »
