To recognise the 90th Anniversary of the Total Solar Eclipse viewed from Southport on 29th June 1927 the Liverpool Astronomical Society will be having a Solar Day and telescope workshop on Saturday, 15th July from 1pm at the Leighton Observatory, Pex Hill. The event is expected to end at 7pm, but may continue later if weather conditions are favourable.
Please note that parking is free, but limited.

Solar Day (open to the public and LAS members, free to all)

View the sun live through specially adapted telescopes – normally, the sun cannot be viewed through any kind of magnifying device without significant risk of equipment and/or eye-damage, but with our specially equipped filters you can see the sun in safety through a telescope.

Telescope Workshop (free for LAS Members)

The purpose of the telescope workshop is to provide advice to any member on maintenance and use of telescopes including collimating as well as assisting with problems and troubleshooting.  All welcome.

For further details on either of the day’s events, please contact Noel Rimmer and Ken Sharples by filling out this form:
