International SUNday 2016
Sunday 26/6/16 Leighton Observatory, Cronton, open from 12:00 to 16:00 for solar observing. Solar disk, taken by Mark Payne, showing a lifting prominence and at the 10 o'clock position on the limb is a bright spot showing the second of the three x-class flares (X2.8) which occurred in the previous 24 hours. This is located at the active region AR1748 which is moving around onto the earth facing side of the solar disc. This image was captured with a double stacked 50mm H-Alpha scope & DMK31 CCD on 13th May 2013 at 13:16:59

Introduction to Solar Imaging, Wednesday 20th June, 2018
The Leighton Observatory at Pex Hill Pex Hill, Cronton, Widnes, Cheshire, United KingdomAs part of the informal activities initiative, and in anticipation of this year's International SUNday, Brendan Martin will be running a workshop to introduce members to imaging the sun, and processing those images. There is no need to book ahead for this, and it will take place in the relaxed atmosphere of Pex Hill. The primary audience for this event is LAS members. LAS at World Museum – Apollo displays, activities

Mission to the Moon: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11
Liverpool Central Library William Brown Street, Liverpool, Merseyside, United KingdomJoin us on Saturday, 20th July at Liverpool's Central Library for a day celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. We'll be at the Library from 10am through to 5pm, along with a variety of guests, including regional astronomical societies, academics, interest groups and more. Lectures about the Apollo mission will run throughout the day and there'll be an assortment of memorabilia, displays, desks and stalls where you can learn and have fun. Stargazing Evening at Court Hey Park (part of National Astronomy Week 2025)

There will also be an illustrated talk about the wonders of the solar system at 7.15pm and repeating it at 8pm (lasting about half an hour).
