Weekly public meetings are held every Wednesday evening (except if it falls too close to Christmas), between 19:00 (7 PM) and 21:00 (9 PM) local time (e.g. 7pm BST in summer, 7pm UTC in winter) in the Liverpool Astronomical Society’s Leighton Observatory.   • Solar Day at Liverpool World Museum

    We will be situated near the front entrance of the museum at street level. Details to follow. Two images of the solar disc, side-by-side. The first shows the sun in hydrogen-alpha light, and the second shows the sun in ordinary visible white light. The hydrogen-alpha image makes it possible to see details like prominences, flares and other structures present in the solar chromosphere, while the white-light image shows details in the solar photosphere, such as sunspots.
